Greetings and News!
Hello, current and prospective St. Bart’s families!  We are thrilled you are here to learn more about our programming and our parish.

The Education Committee met with the wardens and Rev. Amanda in the fall 2022 to discuss the best way to continue supporting our youth of all ages.  Our discussions took into consideration the new Vision and Strategies formed by committee heads and approved by the Vestry. One of our goals is to expand Youth offerings outside of the Sunday church service schedule, since families find it challenging to participate every Sunday morning.

We have welcomed and enjoyed the addition of Rev. Amanda’s children’s homily at the beginning of the service.  Many thanks to the teachers who have signed up and taught this year to help our youth grow in their spiritual formation.  Thanks also to our terrific teenagers who have been providing day care service.

Here is our new Youth Education Program Calendar

Overview
  • Every month we will hold Sunday School classes as usual on the first Sunday of the month.
    • Our desire is to have this be the one “special” Sunday that families could reserve for their children to be at church. Children are always welcome in the church service and encouraged to participate in the children's homily.  We also offer the opportunity for children to be acolytes.
  • During the third week of the month we will offer a special event for youth participation, usually on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening.   These events will range from fellowship to Outreach volunteering to guest speakers with discussion groups. Many events will include food!

Schedule for January through June 2023
  • January 8th: Sunday School at 9 AM during the church service
  • Our January event was a sledding party at Valhalla Country Club in Cumberland.
  • February 5th: Sunday School at 9 AM
  • Our February event was a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Palooza with fun and games.
  • March 5th: Sunday School at 9:30 AM
  • March 26th:  Gather after church to design the t-shirt logo for the May Day of Service.
  • April 2nd, Palm Sunday: Sunday School at 9:30 AM during the church service, participate in the palms Processional.
  • April 9th, children are invited to attend our Easter service at 9:30 am.  Easter Egg Hunt after church.
  • May 6th:  Day of Service: Volunteer opportunities at 4 non-profit organizations. Click here for more information.
  • May 7th: Sunday School at 9:30 AM during the church service
  • June 4th: Sunday School at 9:30 AM (last Sunday School until September)
  • June: Sea Dogs Game

We will keep you updated as we have more details for next year.  We are always happy to hear any feedback you would like to share with the Committee.  We want to ensure we continue to support our youth of all ages and provide them with meaningful programs that will help them grow in their spiritual formation.
Please reach out to anyone on the Education Committee with further questions:  Jean Burr , Pal Covie , Mary Curlew, Harriet Davis , and Carla Hunt.

As always, all children are welcome to attend all or part of any service with their families.  We have  "Activity bags" in the entry way of church--the Narthex--for them to engage with during the service.

We will continue to work hard to enrich your children’s spiritual formation journey, making it fun and engaging along the way.

Yours faithfully,

The Education Committee
Jean Burr   Pal Covie   Mary Curlew   Harriet Davis   Carla Hunt
